    6. What's the PIN number of my Blackberry? What is the activation code?

PIN is needed to generate the activation code.

Each Blackberry has a unique ID, called PIN. This is NOT your 4-digit PIN for your SIM card, but rather a 8 character (0..9, A..F) long value that is used to identify your device against the BES (Blackberry Enterprise Server). For instance, '23A09C81' is a PIN. We use the PIN to create your activation codes for you, so you will need to enter the PIN (again, the Blackberry PIN but not the SIM card PIN) when you are placing an order for one of our products.

If you do not know your PIN, you can find it on your Blackberry by selecting the Options (or Settings) icon, then selecting Status. It is also displayed in the BlackBerry Desktop Redirector and in the BlackBerry Desktop Manager.

For your convenience, it is also displayed in all our applications (trial version, right above the Register button).

Please distinguish "B" from "8", "b" from "6" and "D" from "0"(zero) when you tell us the PIN.

Activation code is to unlock the application's trial time limitation. To register with the code, on the application's main screen, input the 8-digit or 5-digit activation code you received. After you type in the activation code, roll down the trackwheel and highlight the button Register (but do NOT click the trackwheel). And then click the <Enter> key on the keyboard.

    7. What's the alx and cod file?

Every application comes with a .alx and a .cod file in the setup package which are required when you install the application to your blackberry. They must be located in a same folder.

To install the application to your Blackberry using these two files, run your Blackberry Desktop Manager -> Application Loader -> Add, you will get a "Open" dialog, Go to the folder where you put your .alx and .cod files (you can change folder by the dropdown list in the top area), and select the alx file and click the button "Open". (don't type in the file name, but select the existing one).

When you go back to the Application Loader, make sure the application you just added is selected, then click button "Next" and follow the instruction there-after.

    8. What's Blackberry System Software Version? Where can I get the latest system software?

If you go to BB Desktop Manager -> Help -> About -> Handheld (or Device) Software tab, you will find the Destop Manager version.

On your handheld, if you go to Options (Settings)-> About, you will find your BB device's software version.

Please note that Handheld Software should be the same (or at least similar) to the version of BB Desktop Manager. If they don't match, an error of "File Missing" or "J:0x0000000A" may occur whenever you try to install an application.

Our applications are fully tested on version 4.0 or greater. If you would like to upgrade your blackberry's system software, you can download from your carrier's web site.

    9. How to upgrade Microhill software? Is upgrade free?

Upgrade is absolutely free. Just follow the following instructions.

The simplest way is to install over-the-air or you may choose to use your Desktop Manager.

Step 1. Remove the old version from your handheld. 10. What is OTA?

OTA stands for Over-The-Air. It allows you to install or upgrade the applications directly to your device over the wireless network.

Our products fully support OTA setup and upgrade. Just open your BlackBerry's Internet Browser and visit our product page at http://www.microhill.com/index-products.asp and then click the link Over-the-Air of a particular product.

    Trial and upgrade is FREE.

    11. How comes I got "No additional applications designed for your handheld were found." when I install the application?

You may get this error message when you install any Blackberry application using the Desktop Manager. This is because you have installed a wrong copy of Desktop Manager. There is no generic Desktop Manager, which means you have to install a specific one for your device. For example, if you have a Blackberry Model 7100, you have to install Desktop Manager for 7100 which has the correct O/S for your blackberry. Refer to here for more detail.

You may need to install the correct Desktop Manager. However, the easiest way to install any product of ours is to install "over the air" (if you have internet access on your Blackberry), which does NOT require Desktop Manager.

For more information on install over-the-air, click here .

    12. How comes I got "Could not open Tunnel" error when I run the application?

The application requires internet connection to update information, and the connection is not available though on your device.

    a. If you're connected via WAP: You must specify the WAP settings correctly for the application. Refer to How to set WAP

    b. If you're connected via BES: Mobile Data Service must be enabled on the BES. If your BES fulfills these requirements, the issue may be that you do not have an appropriate IPPP service book entry synchronized to your handheld. The current list of service book entries can be viewed within Options. You may need to consult your system administrator for help in synchronizing an appropriate service book entry.

    13. What's the PIN number of my Windows Mobile device?

PIN is needed to generate the activation code.

Our products will generate a unique ID for each Windows Mobile device, called PIN. This is NOT your 4-digit PIN for your SIM card, but rather a 8 character (0..9, A..F) long value that is used to identify your device. It is used to issue the activation (unlock) code.

You can find it by invoking the menu "About" within the application.

Please distinguish "B" from "8", "b" from "6" and "D" from "0"(zero) when you tell us the PIN.
