Install Microhill Products on Windows Mobile

It's both our customer's interest and ours to deploy the state-of-the-art applications to as many mobile devices as possible in the fast changing market. Eventually, we will provide all products with Windows Mobile versions as well as Blackberry ones. To check out the product availability of the Windows Mobile version, you can go to the individual product page. If a link called "Windows Mobile" can be found, that means the product is ready for Windows Mobile devices.

The products are developed on Windows Mobile 5 (WM5) with .Net Compact Framework 2 (CF2). (Most Windows Smartphone/PDA devices are shipped with WM5 or WM6 with CF2 after January 2007), and they are also able to run on Windows Mobile 6.

The following FQA section will guide you through the setup procedure of our products.

    1. How do I tell if my Smartphone/PDA is Windows Mobile 5? If not, can I upgrade?
    2. My device came with Compact Framework 1.0, how can I upgrade to CF 2.0?
    3. How to install applications to Windows Mobile device?

How do I tell if my Smartphone/PDA is Windows Mobile 5? If not, can I upgrade?

It depends on the device hardware model and you shall refer to the user manual or device specification. Please be noted that even some very old Windows CE PDAs can be upgraded to WM5.

    2. My device came with Compact Framework 1.0, how can I upgrade to CF 2.0?

You can download CF 2.0 (click here) from Microsoft and install to your device. It will add CF 2.0 to your device (about 5 MB in size). Your CF 1.0 will not be removed from your device so that the existing applications won't be affected.

The applications require CF 2.0 on your device. If the device does not have it, you'll be asked to install during or after you setup the application.

    3. How to install applications to Windows Mobile device?

There are two methods: Install from PC or from CAB file. Firstly, unzip the application setup package to your computer and you can find at least two files: .msi file and .cab file.

  1. Install from PC

  2. Run the .msi file from your PC and it will install the application through ActiveSync to your device. (You must have ActiveSync installed on your PC).

  3. Or, copy the .cab file to the device

  4. You can copy the cab file to your device either by the Explore function of ActiveSync or use a card reader to copy the cab file to the storage card. Then run the cab file right from your device. more information
